What is Overview and Scrutiny?
We have four scrutiny committees whose purpose is to conduct scrutiny reviews into issues affecting the county, contributing to the review and development of policies, monitoring performance and holding decision-makers to account.
The Overview and Scrutiny function provides ideas, challenge and debate that contribute to making Northamptonshire an excellent place to live and work.
Scrutiny Management Committee
The Scrutiny Management Committee is responsible for managing and co-ordinating the Overview and Scrutiny function at the council to ensure that it achieves its objectives. It also scrutinises and reviews strategic and cross-cutting issues in the county and county council organisational functions.
Adult Social Care and Health Scrutiny Committee
The Adult Social Care and Health Scrutiny Committee is responsible for scrutinising and reviewing issues and services relating to
- health care;
- adult social care; and
- adult and community learning.
Children and Young People Scrutiny Committee
The Children and Young People Scrutiny Committee is responsible for scrutinising and reviewing services and issues relating to children and young people’s educational and social care and health needs in Northamptonshire.
Customers & Communities Scrutiny Committee
The Customers & Communities Scrutiny Committee is responsible for scrutinising and reviewing services and issues relating to:
- Customers Services
- Culture
- Community Safety inc Fire
- Emergency Planning and Trading Standards
- Highways and Transport
- Waste
- Procurement
- Economic Development Regeneration and regional relationships
- Commercial
- Community Renewal
- Community Cohesion
- Third Sector and Growth in Northamptonshire
