What is the Corporate Management Team?

Our Chief Executive and senior officers make up our Corporate Management Team (CMT). This team is the main officer decision making body and works alongside and for the councillors you elect to run the key public services of Northamptonshire including schools, roads, care for older people, the fire service, libraries and country parks.

What are they responsible for?

The CMT meets weekly and is responsible amongst other things for:

• Managerial leadership and direction of the council; 
• Providing the formal response to Cabinet policy direction and the development of corporate policy and initiatives for Cabinet consideration;
• Co-ordination and commissioning of council-wide activity, planning, programme management.

This team is responsible for an annual gross expenditure budget of £1billion, a staff of 17,000 and leads an organisation that co-ordinates voluntary sector, represents the interests of Northamptonshire to government and international bodies.

It has for a number of years helped to achieve the setting to the lowest council tax of any county council in the UK.

What do they get paid?

In filling the role of Chief Executive with the internal appointment of Paul Blantern in June 2010, Northamptonshire County Council has made savings of up to £200,000. This is due to:

• The incoming Chief Executive entering at the lower end of the assigned salary range.
• The repositioning of our directorates making it unnecessary to fill Paul Blantern’s former position with a direct replacement. This gives Northamptonshire County Council a saving equivalent to a director’s yearly salary.
