Prince Alexanskander heir to the throne of a large empire finds his life in turmoil as he flies from his parents murderers in a mechanical walker. His world collides with new scientific ideas on top of an icy mountain when a flying machine made up of living organisms crashes near the castle he is using as his refuge. He saves Deryn Sharp part of the ship’s crew and is taken hostage to ensure that their ship is repaired and a race against time ensues. Set in an alternative Edwardian post World War I era, this fast moving story is the first in a trilogy.
