Advanced Skills Teachers (ASTs) are nationally accredited high quality teachers who have skills recognised as contributing to school improvement.
They do this by developing innovative practice, sharing existing good practice and supporting the pedagogic development of other teachers.
They also provide internal support work within their department and across the school. In addition ASTs spend up to 20% of their time doing outreach work in other schools.
