Induction information for NQTs

Teach Northamptonshire

Your Induction period is an extremely important time; successful completion of Induction is essential if you are to continue your teaching career in maintained schools.

The Local Authority acts as appropriate body for the Induction of most of Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs)  in the county, although some academies use alternative providers as Appropriate Body.  The Appropriate Body is jointly responsible, with your Headteacher, for your supervision and training during Induction and has the main quality assurance role.

As an NQT you will be entitled to:

  • 10% additional non contact time to allow you to evidence the Core standards
  • An Induction tutor and / or mentor in school who will support you and monitor progress, completing termly assessment reports which go to the Appropriate Body.

If you have any queries or questions about the Induction process or want to discuss any concerns, contact the Induction Coordinator by email - NQT@northamptonshire.gov.uk

At the completion of Induction you may be eligible for a Golden Hello payment. The details of how to claim this are on the 'Newly and Recently Qualified Teacher' page.

Registering your induction

Your NQT induction must be registered with us before you start your school Induction programme.

If you are not registered with us for Induction when you start working at a school, there may be delays that could lead to you not completing Induction within your first year of teaching. Please note, this is not the same as your GTCE registration. You will know that your school has registered you when you and your mentor receive a letter from the Local Authority NQT Induction Coordinator welcoming you to the county and informing you of the NQT meeting dates.
