Request for an in year school place

Applying for an in year school place

The information and application process detailed below is for in year applications only, this includes families moving into or within Northamptonshire or families who have not moved address but wish to request an alternative school place.

If your child requires a Reception place for September 2010 or is transferring to Junior, Middle, Secondary or Upper School in September 2010, contact School Admissions to request a co-ordinated scheme application form as the online application process is now closed.

Before you apply

If you move into or within Northamptonshire, or wish to request an alternative school place for your child, please familiarise yourself with the information below before applying for a school place.

  • We are unable to consider applications on the basis of an intended move.
    • For that reason we ask that you have a confirmed moving date before you submit your application.
    • Documentary evidence in the form of a solicitor’s letter to confirm exchange of contracts or a copy of your signed rental agreement may be required.
    • The county council reserves the right to seek further documentary evidence as it feels appropriate.
  • The school place must be required within 2 months of the application date. Applications outside of this time scale will not be considered.
  • Children must be resident within the country before an application can be made.
  • Places cannot be reserved and we therefore process and allocate places, where possible, close to the confirmed moving date. Once a school place has been offered the child should start attending the school within 10 school days.
  • Parents can state up to 3 preferences on their application form. If we are unable to offer a place at any of your preferences, a place will be allocated at the school nearest to your home address with availability.
  • The Admissions Team recommends that you visit schools prior to making a preference for them on your application form.
  • Applications for school places in Northamptonshire in Community or Voluntary Controlled schools must be made through the School Admissions Team. These schools are unable to accept applications made directly to the school.

Special conditions apply for Service and Crown Personnel. Contact the Admissions Team for further details.
