Special schools funding arrangements for 2014-15

The consultation document outlines Northamptonshire County Council’s (the Authority) proposed changes to Special School funding arrangements for 2014-15. The consultation also provides an opportunity for all Special Schools to comment on the changes being proposed.

Schools are asked to use the response form below and return by no later than the revised deadline of Friday 28th February 2014 to

Schools Finance are offering a drop in session at John Dryden house in Northampton on Thursday 6 February for any special schools who have specific questions or do not fully understand a proposal.

These ‘sessions’ are offered in 30minute slots from 9-30am to  4pm on 6 February.

If you wish to take up this offer please e-mail ASAP with:

your preferred time

  • who you plan to bring
  • car registration numbers so we can book parking spaces

We will then let you know if your proposed slot is available and confirm arrangements.

2013-14 school balances

Amendments to the school balances control mechanism were discussed with Schools Forum in December 2013.

We are now consulting with all maintained schools on amendments to the exceptions allowed in the 2013-14 school balances (SB1) return.

The deadline for responses to be sent to is Friday 28th February 2014. The feedback and final proposals will be presented to the Schools Forum meeting on the 18 March.

2014-15 School funding arrangements

Following on from the significant changes to school funding as a result of the funding reforms, the DfE is now consulting on further proposed changes to the school funding arrangements for 2014-15.  An outline briefing note was issued to all heads and bursars on 15 July 2013 as follows:

Further work has been undertaken by NCC colleagues and a Schools Forum working group, and we are now providing a briefing paper which:

  1. Outlines the proposed changes;
  2. Demonstrates the impact these might have on schools; and
  3. Makes recommendations for changes to the Northamptonshire funding formula.
