Pre-sorted rubbish

List of recyclable materials

Pre-sort

Please remember to pre-sort your rubbish at home to make your visit to the Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) quicker and easier. You can dispose of your recyclable rubbish by using the appropriate recycling containers provided around the site.

All of our recycling centres take the same range of materials. The centres accept a large range of wastes for reuse and recycling including:

  • Cans, eg food and drink cans
  • Car Batteries
  • Cardboard
  • Garden waste (grass, tree trunks, plants, etc)
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Inert waste, eg soil and rubble
  • Scrap Metals
  • Mobile phones
  • Newspapers and magazines
  • Paper (no secure facilities for confidential waste)
  • Plasterboard and plaster.
  • Plastic bottles
  • Reusable items (furniture, books, etc)
  • Textiles
  • Tetrapaks / Waxy Cartons
  • Timber and wood
  • Used engine oil
  • WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment)

Please note: There are some types of waste which the centres cannot accept, these include:

  • Asbestos (except Corby Household Waste Recycling Centre)
  • Clinical waste
  • Motor vehicles
  • Gas Bottles are acceptable at a limited number of sites. Please contact Waste Management for further details.

Think before you bin

Help reduce the amount of rubbish we create by thinking before you bin. Before you throw something away think if it could be reused either by a friend or another member of your family, or if not could someone less fortunate benefit from it?

There are a number of charity shops and non-profit organisations which will take unwanted furniture and household items for reuse. Alternatively items can be left in the dedicated Reuse Shops at all HWRCs.
