The Northamptonshire Definitive Map (and Statement) are the legal records of all the county's public rights of way (footpaths, bridleways, restricted byways and byways open to all traffic).
The Definitive Map Team are responsible for maintaining the legal integrity of the Map.
The Definitive Map is on deposit at the following locations:
- Definitive Map Team, Riverside House, Riverside Way, Northampton (please contact the department if you would like to make an appointment to view the map)
- Local Studies Room at Northampton Central Library, Abington Street, Northampton (the map can be viewed during their normal opening hours)
- Principle offices of Northamptonshire District and Borough Council Offices (for their District or Borough only)
- Every Parish Council in the County (for their parish only)
The Definitive Map is not intended for recreational use. If you wish to know where rights of way are for recreational purposes, we recommend that you purchase an Ordnance Survey Landranger or Explorer series map.
