New streetlights for Northamptonshire
By 2016, every one of the council’s street lights will be removed, replaced or upgraded.
The new street lighting system will use:
- Modern technology and will be cheaper to run.
- White light as opposed to yellow light used in older street lights.
Balfour Beatty is carrying out the work on our behalf. They have set up a comprehensive website to give you all the background to the project.
To find out what work is happening in your particular area visit the Street Lighting website.
You can also contact Balfour Beatty's dedicated customer care team who will be able to help with more technical questions relating to the changes.
Why have streetlights in Northamptonshire been switched off?
In Northamptonshire the county council is responsible for thousands of street lights. A programme to reduce the cost of street lighting by 50 per cent in order to save £2 million was approved by the county council in February 2011.
This was to contribute to the £73million of savings the council needed to make in 2011/2012. As well as making cash savings the initiative is also helping the county council reduce its energy consumption and carbon footprint.
