What support is provided to foster carers?

We provide a wide range of support to Foster Carers which includes:

  • An allowance to cover the cost of caring for a child/young person.

  • A fee which recognises the different level of skills a foster carer has gained.

  • Provision of local supervision and support through a designated Social Worker.

  • Buddy Scheme – Where we link you during the approval process with an experienced foster carer who can provide practical advice and insight into the role of a foster carer.

  • Access to a wide range of training and development opportunities.

  • An annual awards recognition ceremony to thank our foster carers for their hard work and valued contribution at 5 year stages.

  • Access to carer support groups in your local area.

  • Regular newsletters with information and updates.

  • A Virtual School to advise and liaise on schooling issues including children and young people not in regular attendance at school.

  • Annual membership of Fostering network.

  • Foster Carer identity card which entitles you to discounts at a number of shops and leisure venues across Northamptonshire.

  • Support group for your own children to come together with other foster families children.
