Secondary Schools Information

The staff at Everdon can offer various options for Students at Secondary Schools.

Take a look at some of the programmes on offer, alternatively contact us to discuss your requirements and we can provide you with an individual programme.

Year 6/Year 7 Transition course

  • These programmes are developed to help your new students assimilate into Secondary School.
  • They promote new relationships, understanding and team building within their new classes.
  • They can be delivered here at Everdon or on your own school grounds.

Outdoor Education for Specialist Sports Colleges

Our programmes will introduce young people to the work practices in the field of learning. They allow young people to:

  • develop activity programmes
  • become involved in risk assessment
  • gain skills which can be used across all areas of the Outdoor Leisure industry

Outdoor Learning for PE and Sports Studies Students (BTEC and GCSE)

  • These programmes are designed to introduce young people to the issues surrounding work in the Outdoor industry.
  • Concepts such as risk assessment, programme development and operating practical activity sessions are explored.

River Studies

Supporting the Science and Geography National Curriculum this course will involve a variety of field based activities including:

  • Sources of rivers
  • Measuring the flow of the river
  • Transects
  • Field sketches of a meander
  • Pollution monitoring
  • Species sampling

There is an option to study these at contrasting sites in the local area.

Bushcraft Skills

A one day course based at Everdon, or on your own school site (if suitable) this course will enable your students to have an understanding of survival skills for the outdoors.

Activities may include:

  • Building and lighting a camp fire
  • Lighting a fire without matches
  • Cook on a camp fire
  • Build shelters 

Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

  • We can offer training for participants up to Gold Award.
  • Training Programmes can operate from school sites, based at the Centre or in areas such as Long Mynd and the southern Peak District.
  • Leaders are experienced Mountain Leaders accredited by UK Mountain Leadership Training Board (MLTB).
