What is Forest School?
Forest Schools have been developed from the concept which originated in Scandinavia during the 1950's. The children visit the woodland site on a weekly basis and, through play, learn about the natural environment, how to solve problems and work with each other, learn to manage risks and explore for themselves.
The skills learned at Forest School and the opportunities in an outdoor setting have enabled children to gain an effective foundation that raises academic achievement.
Who can come to Forest School?
Forest School programmes are suitable for all children and young people. It has been particularly effective for those children who are kinaesthetic learners (learning through doing) and those who may struggle to achieve in the more formal classroom setting.
