The Last Ghost: A Belladonna Johnson Mystery by Helen Stringer
Belladonna Johnson’s Mum and Dad are not like other people’s parents. For one thing, they’re ghosts, which make it a bit difficult to do normal things, but Belladonna doesn’t mind. The other kids think she’s a bit weird anyway. Although it would help, Belladonna thinks, if certain ghosts wouldn’t keep popping up in inconvenient places. Until one day they stop popping up completely, including her parents. With only a cryptic clue and the help of a new-found friend, Belladonna must get to the bottom of this mystery before she loses her parents for good.

Daddy Lost his Head by illustrated by Quentin Blake & written by Andrew Bouchard
A hilarious picture book tale of what the children did when dad lost his head – they made him a new one. Having no head does have its advantages for Mum with no snoring, always agreeing with her and even doing the hoovering.

Unseen Academicals by Terry Pratchett
Discworld is revisited where a sporting challenge must be met by the wizards at the Unseen University and the rules of football redefined. Currently the local version of the game often results in an unruly mob and violent death. The wizards now have to play the street footballers. But it is really through the developing friendships between the mysterious Mr Nutt and his boss and best friend Trev (candle dribblers by trade) and Glenda and Juliet (night kitchen cooks) that the story unfolds and eventually collides with the big match at the end. Hilarious and thought provoking at the same time especially about the community energy generated by the football crowd nicknamed The Shove.
