Off-site Visits

New Northamptonshire Employer Guidance for the use of schools and children's services.

From 1st January 2012 new employer guidance will come in to operation with respect to off site visits involving children and young people. The Policy document can be downloaded below:

This policy document formally accepts the model guidance offered by the Outdoor Education Advisors Panel. This is available as an electronic only document from the link below:

The Outdoor Education Advisors Panel model employer guidance replaces Health and Safety of Pupils on Education Visits (HASPEV) as the cornerstone of Northamptonshire County Council's employer guidance. This employer guidance needs to be read in conjunction with the above Policy Document.

Urgent trips and Visits

Spain, France and Germany have been placed on high alert by the Foreign Office. Please check the Foreign Office website for other areas. The Home Office rate the threat level as substantial in Great Britain. The following link will provide information and advice:

High Ropes and Adventure Parks

Northamptonshire County Council would like to remind schools that visits to High Ropes and Adventure Courses are classified as Category 'C'. To avoid confusion, if participants are required to use harnesses and full protective equipment the course falls within the scope of the 'C' categorisation.

Employer requirements covering visits by NCC groups to High Ropes courses are contained within the document below:

Farm Visits

Please note: Farm visits have returned to Category B and can be approved by EVC’s.

The following still applies to all farm visits:

  • There must be a risk management document used  by all leaders for supervision during the visit.
  • Parents must give approval for the visit.
  • Hand hygiene is essential.

Off-site visits are an essential part of a child's learning whilst in education. We can help to ensure your school meets the requirements of the 'County Policy for Educational Trips and Visits'.

These pages will provide you with information and guidance to ensure high standards of safety and quality on school excursions.
