About Us

Our Chief Fire Officer, Martyn Emberson, is Head of Protective Services within Northamptonshire County Council. This includes responsibility for Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS), Trading Standards, Emergency Planning, Community Safety and the Drug and Alcohol Team (DAAT) which sits within the Customer and Community Services.

Our service is funded through the Standard Spending Assessment (SSA) from central government and council tax. NFRS operates with an annual budget of approximately £23.8m (as of 2009/10), equivalent to approximately £35.50 per head of population in the county.

Our most important resource is our people. Currently we employ over 700 staff who deliver services throughout the county. We have 22 fire stations, one headquarters building at Moulton, Northampton and two satellite sites, one in Kettering and one at Wootton Hall Park, Mereway, Northampton.

We have 27 fire appliances and 10 special appliances (support vehicles, e.g. water bowser, aerial appliance, incident command vehicle, etc). Emergency calls come through our fire control centre currently based at Moulton, Northampton.
