Information Resources

In our libraries we have trained staff who can help you find information on almost anything. All libraries have yearbooks, directories and maps for quick facts and figures. All libraries provide books and leaflets and free access to selected websites on a huge range of subjects for hobbies, learning, living and research.

    Our online and telephone enquiry service. We welcome enquiries from anyone who lives, works or studies in Northamptonshire, or who would like information about the county.

Online Information Resources

To help you find that vital piece of information we have subscribed to a wide range of online information resources that you can use from anywhere via the internet just by typing in your library card number or your library membership number if you are a Virtual library member: 

  • Complete Business Reference Adviser (COBRA)
    COBRA is a practical and comprehensive resource for anyone wanting to start a business, write a business or marketing plan or conduct research into a new market.

  • CREDO reference 
    100 online encyclopaedias, dictionaries, crossword solver and reference books.

  • Driving Test Theory
    Theory Test Pro is a highly realistic online simulation of the UK's driving theory test. It contains the entire official test question bank, hazard perception video clips and an online version of the Highway Code.

  • Encyclopaedia Britannica Online

  • Go Citizen
    GoCitizen.co.uk is an online study resource for candidates preparing for the Life in the UK test or British citizenship test.

  • InfoTrac
    Access to 12 national daily and Sunday newspapers, 20 national and international journals plus The Times Digital Archive 1785-1985.

  • John Johnson Collection
    A collection of printed ephemera, offering unique insights into the changing nature of everyday life in Britain in the eighteenth, nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

    Listing of manufacturing and production companies; great for finding suppliers and other vital information to support business.

    Access these award winning resources and explore the worlds of art and music.

  • Oxford Dictionary of National Biography (DNB) 
    Over 50,000 biographies of men and women who shaped Britain's past and present.

  • Oxford English Dictionary Online (OED)

  • Oxford Reference Online 
    A vast online reference resource.

  • World Book Online 
    Online reference encyclopaedia and resource with all the articles from the 22 volume World Book Encyclopaedia plus thousands more. Includes a wide range of illustrations, animations and audio clips.
