Q: How can I become a foster carer?

A: We all know that children thrive best in a stable family environment. Each child is a unique individual and every situation is different. For this reason we need many different sorts of families and individuals to care for them. Fostering gives you a chance to give a child a stable home and a future. This is a particularly rewarding task and can be enriching for all the family members. For more information on how to become a foster carer use the contact details below or visit the fostering webpage.

Q: How do I appeal against a decision?

A: Sometimes the county council makes decisions about what help you may need, and if it will provide such help. However, in some cases you may disagree with a decision.; If you do not agree with a decision you have a right to appeal. An appeal is about giving a person the chance to have the decision looked at again. For more information visit the how to appeal against a decision webpage.

Q: How do I find a Residential Care Home?

A: The County Council holds a Residential Care Homes register, the purpose being to provide information on the Northamptonshire area, to all those seeking residential and nursing care funded by Northamptonshire County Council. It lists all those homes that provide care for older people that have contracts with the County Council. The listing of homes is intended to assist individuals in making choices about homes and does not in any way guarantee that placements will be made in individual homes. For more information and to view the Care Homes list visit the Residential Care Homes webpage.

Q: I have an elderly neighbour/parent who needs help in the home, who can I speak to?

A: A high priority within Adult Social Care is to help more people to live as independently as possible in their own homes by providing or buying care services to support them. We want to help people to live independently in their own homes, but if we, or you, feel that you would be better off moving to different accommodation, we will discuss all the options available. For more information contact your local Care Management Team or visit the help at home webpage.

Q: What are direct payments?

A: From April 2003 every local council has a duty to make direct payments to those who have assessed eligible care needs, instead of arranging services for them. The vast majority of people receiving services from the council have a right to direct payments. Direct Payments gives the recipient control and flexibility over their care support arrangements but it does mean they take on the responsibilities of being an employer. For more information use the contact details below or visit the direct payments webpage.
