Q: Do I need a smoke detector in my home?

A: More than half of all fire deaths occur in the home, mainly while people are sleeping. You can not rely on your senses to detect a fire while you are asleep, but if you have an alarm it gives you a vital early warning. Smoke kills, it does not wake you up. For more information contact the Fire and Rescue Service using the contact details below.

Q: Where should I put a smoke detector in my home?

A: The best place to fit a single smoke detector is in the hall outside the bedrooms. If your home has more than one floor you should consider fitting one on each level. For more information and advice contact the Fire and Rescue Service on the details below.
