Apply to stay in the UK after it leaves the EU.
If you're an EU citizen, you and your family will be able to apply to continue living in the UK after 30 June 2021. A successful application will give you settled or pre-settled status.
What you need to apply
Any device can be used to complete the form, but you will need to have an android phone to use the 'EU Exit: ID Document check' app. The app checks your documents are valid.
See if your device will work with the app.
If a family member or friend has an android device they can download the 'EU Exit: ID Document Check' app for you to verify your documents.

ID checking appointment
Make an appointment with us to scan your documents so that your identity can be confirmed and you can submit an application for settled status. This service is for people who don't have a compatible device that can be used to download the ID document checking app.
We will not need to keep your ID document and in most cases you will not be asked to send your passport anywhere else during your application for settled status.
If you are eligible to apply for settled status and wish to book an appointment to use the EU Settlement Service, please telephone our registration service on 0300 126 1000 or use our online form.
Book an ID checking appointment with us
Once you have contacted us we will phone you back to confirm the documents you need to bring along and take payment for the appointment. Please note there will be no refund for a missed appointment.
Appointments should last no longer than 30 minutes.
Cost of our service
There is no fee to apply to the scheme, but there is a fee of £14 (including VAT) for our ID checking service.
If you paid a fee during the test phase you will be refunded, details of which will be published by the Home Office.
What to bring with you
You will need to bring to your appointment:
- your current valid biometric EU passport or valid Biometric residence card
- a mobile phone that can receive text messages as you will be sent a pin number during the appointment
- a valid email address to receive instructions on how to complete your application after your appointment
Please note: this service does not currently accept national identity cards as a form of ID, only the documents listed are valid.
