Service description:

The Shared Lives scheme offers an alternate form of accommodation and support within the homes of carers either on a long term basis or short term/respite basis, for vulnerable adults from the age of 16 years.

The scheme supports a range of people, including those with a learning disability, mental health issue or dementia to live within a supported family environment. This helps maintain their wellbeing and promote their independence.

The Shared Lives Scheme recruits experienced carers, and provides training and support and monitoring to ensure carers can meet the needs of customers. Customers are carefully matched with suitable carers to meet their needs and provide the support that is right for them. The Shared Lives Scheme carries out regular visits to both customers and carers to make sure the support provided is appropriate.

In 2019, for the third year running, the Shared Lives scheme received an outstanding CQC rating. The CQC report recognised the positive impact it has on the lives of the people it supports through long-term placements, short breaks, and respite care. It also praised the matching process, which ensures individuals are paired with suitable carers. The inspectors recognised the hard work of the Shared Lives team, noting that they are often ‘going above and beyond what is expected of them’. Inspectors said the Shared Lives carers showed compassion, kindness and great humanity in supporting people to develop their lives.

The Shared Lives scheme is always looking to recruit new carers.
