Service description:

Tax credits give you financial help if you have a low income. They have been replaced by Universal Credit for most people. Existing tax credit claimants are expected to be moved across to universal credit between November 2020 and September 2024.

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) will automatically stop Child Tax Credit (CTC) for a child from 1 September following their 16th birthday. You will need to contact HMRC if your child is staying on in education or approved training on 1 September, and subsequently as they turn 17, 18 and 19 years old, to ensure your payments continue.

There are two types of Tax Credit. Child Tax Credit (CTC) helps people on low incomes with the costs of raising a child. Working Tax Credit (WTC) tops up your earnings if you work and you’re on a low income. Both types can include additional amounts for disabilities.
