Service description:

The Community Learning Disability Service is made up of Community Teams for People with Learning Disabilities (known as CTPLDs).

CTPLDs provide specialist healthcare service for adults who have a learning disability (IQ below 70) and a health need that requires specialist input. They aim to support people with learning disabilities and related health needs to lead happier, healthier, and more fulfilling lives.

The Adults' CTPLD consists of Clinical Psychologists, Consultant Psychiatrists, Community Learning Disability Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, clinical assistants and admin support team. They also have two service user volunteers who support the team.

They work with people aged 18 and over who are diagnosed with a Learning disability. They support people with a range of health needs, for example: accessing physical health services, emotions and wellbeing, providing support around behaviour that challenges, psychological therapy, communication and dysphagia, supporting development of activities of daily living, specialist physiotherapy and reviewing psychiatric medication.

The Adult’s CTPLD work closely with the wider Learning Disability Team, including the Children’s CTPLD, Intensive Support Team (IST) and Inpatient’s respite unit.
