A team of nurses and healthcare assistants who deliver the Healthy Child Programme in special schools across Northamptonshire. The Healthy Child Programme is a planned series of public health interventions for children (aged 5-19 years) and their families. The Special School Nursing Team have several functions and areas of expertise. These may include:

  • Growth screening
  • Advice for parents and carers
  • Multidisciplinary meetings
  • Drop-in service for young people in secondary school
  • Reception screening
  • Continence assessments
  • Transition planning and support
  • Personal, social, and health education (PSHE)
  • Care planning
  • Risk assessments
  • Annual flu vaccine (for both children and staff)
  • Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine
  • Diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough (DTP) vaccine
  • Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine
  • Meningitis and Septicaemia (MenACWY) vaccine
  • EHCP health assessments
  • Short-term interventions for social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) concerns
  • Ongoing Training - annual updates and competencies for the identified health needs of young people
