Community paediatricians are trained in both hospital and community settings. They have experience of working with children and their families with a range of conditions and needs, including:

  • Developmental delays
  • Neuro-disability
  • chronic or long-term illnesses
  • Learning disabilities
  • Child protection
  • Adoption and fostering
  • Looked after children (LAC)
  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
  • Hearing problems
  • Other complex needs

For ADHD and ASD assessment in school-age children, the community paediatricians work with NHFT's Children and Young People's ADHD and ASD Service.

Community paediatricians work with parents and other professionals to make a full assessment of the child’s needs. Appointments are mostly carried out in clinic settings or by phone.
