As the East Midlands only hospice for childrenand young people, Rainbows is a place where life-limited children and their families can find care and support. Their incredible team of people help with end of life care, symptom management, short breaks and respite care.
They're also there to support parents and siblings through their bereavements and care for children until the end.
Rainbows provide 1:1 care wherever possible on a needs-led basis for all children and young people who use the service. Rainbows is a nurse-led unit with support from a team of doctors with expertise in children's palliative and end of life care and symptom management.
In addition to providing care and support within the hospice setting, Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People offer extensive services available to support families in flexible and creative ways in the home including:
- Symptom control assessment and support
- Family support including practical support,information, signposting and emotional support
- Bereavement support and counselling
- Sibling support
- Outreach play
- Youth work
- Cultural support
- Spiritual support
- Social work support
- Music therapy
- Complementary therapy
- Transition support
The care of the children and young people,provided by Rainbows; in whatever setting, is provided by a team of registered nurses and hospice care assistants with a range of skills, qualifications and experience.
They have a palliative care nurse specialist and a respiratory nurse specialist.
Rainbows has medical support comprised of a medical director who is an experienced GP with many years of children's palliative care experience and a team of local GPs, all of whom have been working with Rainbows for many years and are available for all children and young people as necessary 24 hours a day, as well as visiting or contacting the hospice every day.
The hospice seeks to work in partnership with medical teams already providing care to the child/young person and family.
