Service description:

The children’s (paediatric) physiotherapy team works with babies, children, and young people (aged 0-19 years) who may have developmental, neurological, neuromuscular, or musculoskeletal difficulties.

The team provides specialist assessment and a range of interventions and treatments which help children with physical difficulties. Its aims are to:

  • Give children the chance to reach their full potential
  • Maximise their function and independence
  • Promote normal movement
  • Prevent or limit contractures (when muscles, tendons, or joints tighten or shorten) and deformity
  • Improve quality of life

The team takes a holistic approach and works closely with parents and other health and education professionals. It also works closely with the adult service to help create a smooth shift from child to adult services through a transition pathway.

Who is this service for? Children and young people from the age of 0 to 19 living in the north of the county. This includes Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough, and East Northamptonshire.

How do I register for this service? Referrals can be made by any healthcare or educational professional (including health visitors, GPs, paediatricians, consultants, therapists, SENCos, teachers, and Portage staff) via the Referral Management Centre (RMC).

Please note: The paediatric physiotherapy team only see primary school aged children with musculoskeletal problems. Secondary school aged children are seen by the adult physiotherapy team.
