An IASS caseworker will act as an advocate for a child or young person during the EHCP process to ensure that the VOC is visible in the process. The caseworker will arrange to meet with the child or young person to answer any questions they may have relating to the EHC plans, prepare them for meetings, talk to them about what types of questions they might be asked as part of the assessment, review, transfer or process, gain their views and aspiration to be included in the EHC Plan, and attend meetings or reviews with them if required.
Criteria for Referral:
- A young person between 0-25 who is the subject of an Education Health and Care Plan process, or is wishing to challenge the local authority’s refusal to undertake such an assessment.
- Resident in Northamptonshire or be living elsewhere whilst the responsibility of West Northamptonshire or North Northamptonshire Councils.
Young people can self-refer or be referred to the service by a parent, carer or other professional. The young person should normally agree to the referral being made.
