Service description:

'Elective Home Education' is the term used to describe a parent's decision to provide education for their child at home instead of sending them to school.

The Local Authority supports the right of parents to educate their child at home, and it work in partnership with parents to ensure the child receives a suitable education. A suitable education will take into account the child's age, ability, aptitude, and any special educational needs they may have.

Parents making the decision to home educate their child should inform the headteacher of their current school in writing. The school are then required to inform the Local Authority. If the child has never attended school, please inform the Local Authority of this decision to educate at home by contacting either the North or the West team:

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

All children can be educated at home regardless of any special education needs or a disability. If they have an EHC Plan, then arrangements will need to be made for their Annual Reviews.
