Northamptonshire Collaborative Reading Partnership (NCRP)

A key issue across Northamptonshire, at Key Stage 2, is reading. Through central and in-school training, and coaching, and the development partnerships across schools the NCRP aims to address this. There are a selection of resources from the training days below.

Analysis of KS2 data across the Local Authority, over the past 2 years, indicates that one of the key issues for our county is reading. To address this, in collaboration with two of our Teaching Schools, the LA are devising a 2-year programme of targeted support to raise attainment and progress in reading at the end of KS2.

About the project

The project will involve Year 5 and Year 6 teachers and English Subject Leaders. It will be based on the latest EEF research ‘Improving Literacy in KS2’. There is some funding for the first year and we hope to secure additional funding to extend the project beyond this.

The NCRP aims to improve the comprehension ability of pupils and the role of the English Subject Leader. This initiative will combine both central training and CPD along with carefully tailored school to school support. Project schools will be matched with a lead school who will share their successful approaches in developing the teaching of reading both in upper KS2 as well as across the school. The Headteacher will be responsible for monitoring the impact of this programme and this will also be monitored externally by the SSIM attached to the school.
