When is a PEP needed?
Currently the Northamptonshire Virtual School ask for settings to hold a PEP meeting and complete ePEP, an electronic education record, for a child from the term in which they turn 3 years old. Updated guidance published in February 2018 specifies the "VSHs (Virtual School Heads) must discharge their duty from the point at which the child becomes eligible for free education, which is currently the start of the term following a child’s second birthday."
With this in mind, and from this point forward, PEP meetings need to be held and ePEP needs to be completed for all 2 year olds receiving free education, and by at the latest, the term in which they turn 3.
How do I record children’s views?
The children and young people’s views should be facilitated by the designated teachers and recorded on the ePEP system. No paper copies are required to capture children and young people’s views. The child's views should clearly shape and influence the PEP.

How do I complete a PEP?
All PEPs for children in care to Northamptonshire will need to be undertaken using the
ePEP system. Day-to-day administrative ePEP support is provided by the Virtual School team.
