Find out about the current county council Chairman Cllr Graham Lawman, Vice Chairman Cllr Stephen Legg and previous Chairmen.
Councillor Graham Lawman
The newly elected Chairman for 2020 to 2021 is Cllr Graham Lawman. The Vice Chairman for 2020 to 2021 is Cllr Stephen Legg.
Councillor Graham Lawman has been elected as the latest – and almost certainly last – Chairman of Northamptonshire County Council.
He has served on the Council since 2009, firstly for Boughton Green, then two terms for the Croyland & Swanspool Division in Wellingborough.
At NCC, he has been Chairman of the Pensions Committee and Investment Sub-Committee for 8 years, Deputy Chairman of Development Control, an Assistant Cabinet Member and served on the Overview and Scrutiny Committee and Environment and Transport Scrutiny Committees along with other Council working groups.
He has also been a Borough Councillor in Wellingborough since 2006, where he has been Mayor, Deputy Mayor and chaired the Services, Development & Audit Committees as well as membership of Resources and Planning Committees.
Graham is proud to have contribute to the town of Wellingborough in other ways, chairing the board of Shire Community Services – the Wellibus – for whom he has been known to volunteer drive on excursions, being a public governor of Kettering General Hospital, a Governor of the Hatton Academy Trust and Croyland Primary School, a trustee of the Victoria Centre and board member of Hemmingwell Community and Skills Centre.
“I am delighted and honoured to be the 132nd Chairman of the County Council, after some illustrious company! Whilst this year is very different to previous ones in having few meetings and rare opportunities to meet residents and represent the Council around the County, I am still hoping to enjoy the time and engage as much as possible.”
Graham is married to Lora, a fellow Borough Councillor, and has a daughter who is a solicitor. Lora has a son in her native Germany and three grandchildren.
Out of Council, Graham is the Hon Secretary of the Northants Cricket League, where he umpires regularly, having retired as a player, a supporter of the Doughboys and loves listening to music, driving (when it’s allowed) and reading as well as keeping up with current affairs.
