The Countywide Traveller Unit (CTU) is a single body that manages gypsy and traveller related issues on behalf of Northamptonshire County Council and local borough and district councils with the exception of East Northamptonshire Council.
To provide for Travellers and settled communities across the county, a multi-agency approach to support and enforcement that fosters good relations, and in which the rights and responsibilities of all the communities are respected."
Responsibilities of the CTU
The CTU brings together a specialist multi-disciplinary team to deal with the gypsy and traveller issues across the county in a co-ordinated and proactive way. This includes:
- providing a one stop point of access for the public, businesses, agencies and travellers
- management of unauthorised encampments on all public land
- providing advice and guidance to private land owners and if requested, initiating legal proceedings at the land owner's expense
- aiming to reduce the problems associated with encampments by tackling anti-social and unacceptable behaviour
