Purpose of the role

To run a Reception Centre on behalf of Northamptonshire County Council for people who are affected by an emergency or incident in the County. Reception Centres are set up to minimise the discomfort and anxiety of those who are temporarily displaced by an incident or emergency. Reception Centre Managers will be asked to address and manage the immediate needs of evacuees as promptly and as efficient as possible, promoting a personal, sympathetic approach. They will provide a multi-agency approach to ensure that the general care and welfare needs of evacuees are addressed collectively. Procedures are in place for the setting up of the centres and activating the invaluable support we get from other voluntary organisations.


What tasks may be involved?

  • Communicate with the various agencies and organisations involved with the Reception Centre
  • Managing and coordinating Reception Centre staff to roles and tasks
  • Briefing staff and other people
  • Manage any issues that arise in the Reception Centre

What qualities or skills would be useful?

  • Communication, management and organisational skills
  • A willingness to support and assist others
  • Ability to work in a busy environment
