Purpose of the role

A Community Resilience Volunteer is a member of the community who implements a Community Self Help Plan for their area. Identify risks, and use local knowledge and resources to be prepared to respond to an emergency as soon as it starts.


What tasks may be involved?

  • Form a Community Emergency Planning and Response Group (CERP)
  • Engage with existing groups that can support
  • If area is prone to flooding, seek out existing flood warden or recruit a flood warden and encourage community to sign up to flood warnings.
  • Identify risks to your community
  • Identify community shelters
  • Identify community skills and equipment
  • Identify vulnerable people in the community
  • Look at how you are going to engage with your community
  • Complete the community emergency and flood plan and send a copy to NCC Emergency Planning Team.

What qualities or skills would be useful?

  • Good communication skills
  • A willingness to support and assist others

What would the benefits be for me?

  • Taking part in a call out cascade system and participate in the event of a major incident within your community.
  • Undertaking training and have an ability and willingness to undertake a minimum of 3 days continuation training within the first 18 months of membership.
  • Ensuring that your contact details are kept up to date on the Northamptonshire County Council database.
