Purpose of the role

As a faith representative, you will have the opportunity to be involved in making sure the emergency response guidance reflects the needs of your faith and also to support your community in the times of need. It is vital that we are prepared to deal appropriately with casualties and their families from all sorts of faith backgrounds. We know that shock and grief is made a little more bearable if it is clear that those responding to the situation on the ground have dealt with the victim in a sensitive and thoughtful way that honours the requirements of his or her faith, and that they continue to display this sensitivity in working with the affected families.

 

What tasks may be involved?

  • Attend Faith Group Meetings
  • Help put together guidance documents
  • Support with your faith at conferences
  • Provide guidance to those supporting an emergency on your faith issues
  • Leaflet drops and communicate key safety, crime prevention and resilience messages to the community members.
  • Assisting with resilience and emergency services campaigns within the community.
  • Community surveys.
  • Identifying and recruiting like minded people to support the community’s resilience.

What qualities or skills would be useful?

  • Ability to deliver support services in a calm and professional manner.
  • Ability to constructively relate to a wide variety of people and have good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive information in a confidential manner and to assimilate and relay information.
  • Flexible to enable working in rapidly changing situations.
  • Ability to work on own initiative within an agreed framework and as part of a team and provide peer support to other volunteers.
  • A willingness to apply existing experience, skills, abilities and knowledge to supporting people affected by a major incident.
  • Identifying vulnerable premises and people to support in times of need.

What would the benefits be for me?

  • Taking part in a call out cascade system and participate in the event of a major incident within your community.
  • Undertaking training and have an ability and willingness to undertake a minimum of 3 days continuation training within the first 18 months of membership.
  • Ensuring that your contact details are kept up to date on the Northamptonshire County Council database.
