Some of the larger chain stores stock good quality bikes and can offer reliable advice including Halfords, Decathlon and Evans Cycles.

Smyths Toys is a great place for purchasing children's bikes from toddlers through to teens. There are also many reputable online specialist cycling retailers. If you need to transport your bike further afield, cycle boxes and carriers are available for hire or purchase from Big Bear Outdoor, based at Oundle Marina in East Northamptonshire.

Second hand bikes

The Umbrella Fair Bicycle Recycle Project

​Bike hire in Northamptonshire

You don’t even have to own a bike to enjoy cycling in the county as there are several places where you can hire one:

  • At Stanwick Lakes, AJ Cycles hire out bikes for the whole family, including trailers and child seats
  • You can also hire a bike from AJ Cycles'main store at Rushden Lakes
  • At Fineshade Wood near Corby, bike hire is available from Grounds Cycle Centre
  • Rutland Cycling run cycle hire at Brixworth Country Park for riding the 7 miles around Pitsford reservoir. Child seats and tag-alongs also available.
