The Northamptonshire Definitive Map (and Statement) are the legal records of all
the county's public rights of way (footpaths, bridleways, restricted byways and
byways open to all traffic).
Where can you view the Definitive Map?
The Definitive Map is on deposit at the following locations:
- Definitive Map Team, One Angel Square, Angel Street , Northampton NN1 1ED (please contact the department at DefMap@northamptonshire.gov.uk if you would like to make an appointment to view the map)
- Every Parish Council in the County (for their parish only)
Changes to the Definitive Map
Any person believing details contained within the Definitive Map or
Statement to be incorrect may apply for a Definitive Map Modification Order (DMMO) which, if made and confirmed, will amend the map and
statement to ensure that it is a correct record of the public rights of
way.
Rights of way
The Definitive Map is not intended for recreational use. If you wish to know where rights of way are for recreational purposes, we recommend that you purchase an Ordnance Survey Landranger or Explorer series map.
Alternatively you can view the approximate location of rights of way through our interactive mapping system.
Please note: The information displayed on the Interactive Map is not 'The Definitive Map' and cannot be used for legal purposes.
