Cllr Steve Osborne has been selected as the new chairman of Northamptonshire County Council for 2018/19.
Cllr Osborne is the division councillor for Long Buckby, having been elected to the county council in 2007.
His chosen charity during his term in office will be Northamptonshire Domestic Abuse Service, which supports victims of domestic abuse in the county.
Cllr Osborne said: "It is a huge honour to be chosen as chairman of Northamptonshire County Council, which I joined as a councillor more than 10 years ago.
"I will dedicate my year in office to raising money for Northamptonshire Domestic Abuse Service, which is a fantastic local charity working hard to help those who are affected by domestic violence."
Cllr Osborne will be supported by vice-chairman Cllr Malcolm Waters, councillor for the Hatton Park division in Wellingborough.
Outgoing chairman Cllr Dudley Hughes raised almost £4,000 during his term in office for his chosen charities Macmillan Cancer Support Northamptonshire and Nene Valley Care Trust, which supports young people leaving care.
