There will be a series of road closures in Northampton and Kettering for the Aviva Women’s Tour next Wednesday (7 June).

Northamptonshire will host the Grand Depart of the world class women's cycling event, starting in Daventry town centre and racing through parts of the county to finish in Kettering.

There will be a rolling road closure along the route managed by a team of police and specialist cycle race motorcyclists travelling in advance of the riders to ensure that the route is clear and safe. It is expected that roads will be closed for between 20 and 30 minutes at a time.

There will also be the following road closures:

  • High Street will be closed on Wednesday until no later than 5pm.
  • The closure will also affect Tavern Lane, past Brook Street to the St James Street roundabout, and along Abbey Street as far as Lodge Road, and part of New Street.
  • From 10am to midday, the closure will be extended to include the St James Street roundabout.

  • Sheep Street will be closed from 4am to 6pm on Wednesday.

  • Northampton Road will be closed from the double roundabout into the town centre from 1pm until 4pm.

  • Gipsy Lane will be closed at the Northampton Road end from 1.30pm until around 3.30pm.

Parking will also be restricted in Church Walk, Daventry, and Market Street and Sheep Street in Kettering from 6pm on Tuesday.
